There's a lot of consideration to the camera and controls. If the camera is locked at an awkward angle your controls will be slightly modified moving makes the most sense, as opposed to being 100% accurate. In more 2D areas you're restricted to that plane so it's harder to do dumb stuff like walk off the front.
