BR for BR - probably you best option for USA and probably close to your best option for CAS in War Thunder at BR 3.0 period. #warthunder #groundrb #corsair F4U-1D Corsair - Let’s talk about it - YouTube. This is the Rank 3, -1D variant that is the 3rd tech tree Corsair and is currently sitting at BR 3.0. This corsair has been slowly sinking in BR and it’s a shame really. Call it the P-47 syndrome. I’ll tell you though - it’s not sinking in BR because of how it performs in Ground RB. It is easily the best USA CAS plane at BR 3.0 and below - and very competitive up through BR 4.0 with the F6F-5 at 3.3 and the 3.7 Mustang as good alternatives. I personally still take this plane out in my USA 4.0 Ground Forces line-up and it doesn’t feel outclassed. Most of the time I bring the two 1000 pound bombs as my load out. With two 1000 lb bombs - each with a separate drop - it is almost two guaranteed kills every single Corsair spawn. The corsair’s speed and dive performance allows you to quickly and accurately drop these bombs on target every time. The rockets are also fun but I’ve got less experience with using them. You cannot take bombs and rockets. The rockets also cost slightly less spawn points when you can’t afford bombs but still want something more than just guns - so keep that in mind. Once you drop your bombs it’s time to hunt enemy CAS or hunt for soft top ground units which your .50 cals will absolutely shred. I like 700m gun convergence in Ground RB. When the guns get too spread it’s time to pull out of the dive anyways. Your mileage may vary. Keep your speed. Keep it in the vertical. You can turn-fight but only for about 2 turns before you’re spent. Pop your flaps, which are pretty good, to get guns on target when you need. After the engagement dive out, level out into a slight 5 to 10 degree climb, and pick up speed again. Most enemies aren’t paying enough attention to the outskirts of the fight to care and this allows you to reset your attack. MEC can be used near continually, especially on cold maps. If done correctly - you should always be above and faster than your CAS opponents. Yaks and fast Bf 109s have given me the most trouble so focus them down quickly. Zeros can be out run and luckily aren’t very popular for CAS. You out-turn p-47s and pretty much all other heavy CAS options.
