In this video, I read through—from beginning to end—a lost silent film's surviving scenario. This scenario was for the tragic 'Problem Play' romance, 'Shadows' (1915), written and produced by Harold Weston. It survives and is available to us through Harold Weston's screenwriting guidebook, 'The Art of Photo Play Writing' (1916). He included the scenario as he hoped it could serve as a preliminary guide to aspiring screenwriters to help them understand how to write for film when the feature film was still a young mode of storytelling. (If you want to know more about this guidebook, then see my recent Olde Timey Book Review.) This video is for those who, like me, are interested in the topic of lost films and silent filmmaking. It is a little glimpse into the kind of films a British cinemagoer in the 1910s might have been presented with amongst the exhibitor’s weekly programme. Thus, why not follow me into this world of ‘Shadows’ (1915)… Phantasoscope Website: https://www.phantasoscope.com/ Instagram: / phantasoscope Thank you for watching!
