Who is Jesus Christ?

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation” (Colossians 1:15). Jesus Christ holds supreme authority, rank, and preeminence over all that exists. He is not part of creation; He stands above it as Creator and Sustainer. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… Through Him all things were made” (John 1:1–3). Before time, before space, before matter, Jesus existed. He was not born into existence — He entered creation through incarnation. He did not begin at Bethlehem; He stepped into humanity at Bethlehem. Revelation confirms this eternal nature: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22:13). Jesus Christ stands outside of time while fully present within it. Colossians declares, “For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16). Everything that exists flows from Christ and exists for Christ. The universe is not random — it is purposeful. Creation is not chaotic — it is intentional. The stars obey Him. The seas submit to Him. The wind recognizes His voice. “Even the winds and the waves obey Him” (Mark 4:41). The laws of physics hold together because Christ holds them together. “In Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). Yet the majesty of Jesus is not only seen in His power, but in His humility. The One who formed galaxies washed feet. The One who spoke worlds into existence allowed nails to pierce His hands. The One who commands angels allowed Himself to be mocked by men. “Though He was in very nature God… He made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:6–7). This is the heart of Christ — infinite power clothed in infinite love. Colossians continues, “He is the head of the body, the church… so that in everything He might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:18). Jesus is not a part of the church — He is the foundation of it. He is not a contributor — He is the source. He is not one voice among many — He is the authority above all. “No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). Our faith is not built on ideas, institutions, or traditions — it is built on a person: Jesus Christ. Then Scripture reveals the heart of redemption. “For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things… by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross” (Colossians 1:19–20). The fullness of God did not partially dwell in Christ — all of God dwelt in Christ. Not part of God. Not a portion of God. Not a measure of God. All of God. Jesus is the fullness of deity in bodily form (Colossians 2:9). And through His cross, He reconciled broken humanity back to a holy God. This is the great exchange. Our sin for His righteousness. Our guilt for His grace. Our death for His life. “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). We were not saved by effort — we were saved by mercy. We were not restored by works — we were restored by blood. We were not redeemed by religion — we were redeemed by Christ. Colossians 1:21–22 reminds us that we were once alienated, enemies in our minds because of sin, but now we are reconciled through His physical body in death to present us holy, blameless, and free from accusation. This is not poetic language — it is spiritual reality. In Christ, the believer stands justified, cleansed, restored, and adopted. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). And this identity of Christ demands a response. If He is Creator, He is worthy of worship. If He is Savior, He is worthy of surrender. If He is Lord, He is worthy of obedience. Jesus does not call us to admire Him — He calls us to follow Him. “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). True faith is not intellectual agreement; it is surrendered devotion. Jesus Christ is not part of the story — He is the story. He is not the message — He is the message. He is not the way to truth — He is the truth. He is not the path to life — He is life. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). He has always been with us. He is with us now. And He will be with us forever. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). He is eternal in nature, personal in presence, powerful in authority, merciful in redemption, and faithful in promise. This is the identity of Jesus Christ — eternal God, incarnate Savior, reigning King, victorious Redeemer, and returning Lord. And all glory, honor, power, dominion, and praise belong to Him alone, now and forever. Blessed be God forever. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
