Ghazal is a poetic form with rhyming couplets and a refrain, each line sharing the same meter. All couplets are thematically and emotionally autonomous. Ghazal in music is often mistakenly considered as a music genre and associated with a typical tabla/harmonium music arrangement but any poetry can be sung in any tune without a limitation of music arrangement. Here, Ali Aftab Saeed is performing a 'do ghazla', written by Master Altaf. Do ghazla is an amalgamation of two ghazals on the same meter. Punjabis have a way to minuscule their troubles by poking fun and ridiculing themselves, this adds up to their cultural uniqueness. This song is an ode to a wife who left her house after an argument with her husband. The simple yet graceful nine stanzas offer a glimpse of a home where the man has been left alone. The kitchen is overflowing with utensils, her slippers are still lying outside, as if she has stepped out for a moment. In typical Punajbi style, social commentary is interspersed with tongue in cheek descriptions of the man's grief for his departed partner. He cannot meet anyone because the city is dark due to load shedding. He compares her tears to Rawalpindi's infamous Naala Lai. He observes that Ravi doesn't have a drop of water in it, yet Gulshan Ravi is drowning. In the end, he expresses simple faith that things will turn out all right, asking her to come back because it's a beautiful evening.
