From two wonderful movies with baseball themes, “Simon Birch” and “Have Dreams with Travel”, this video shows the wonder of baseball and how friendship and love can leave lifelong impressions. Do you remember baseball friends from your youth or perhaps a family member that supported your dreams of becoming a professional baseball player unconditionally? Or a friend that has reminded you of the good things in life? These two movies are all about that. Simon Birch stars Joseph Mazzello (Joey Wenteworth) and Ian Michael Smith (Simon Birch) where Simon, who has stunted growth, is convinced that God has a plan for him, to be a hero. Have Dreams with Travel stars Cayden Boyd as Ben, a boy with notable talent but needs to believe in his “plan” co-stars with Annasophia Robb (Cass), set off on a magical tale to find new “cool” parents and to follow their dreams. Joey, illegitimate son of the town beauty, in Simon Birch, moves to Gravestown, Maine with his mom and feels very much the outsider. He becomes best friends with Simon, who, because of physical struggles is unloved and unwanted by his parents. Unfortunately, in the last game of the season, Simon swings (finally) the bat and hits a foul ball down the left field line into the crowd, hitting Joey’s mother in the head, killing her. Because of his love and friendship Joey forgives Simon and as an adult, is reminded of a prayer ‘Into paradise...may the angels...lead you” and how much that friendship has carried him through his life. Simon has the chance to be a hero as a bus, returning from a Church retreat, crashes into the lake. He is able to escape from an “extra, extra” small window to save the children, ultimately causing his own death. Cass, in Have Dreams with Travel, comes into Ben’s life as the result of an auto accident on a rainy night in Texas where Cass’s parents are killed. The accident is the result of an advance by her lecherous father. As their relationship grows, Ben senses that Cass is not telling him the reason for her deep sadness, but says “It’s not part of the “plan” for her to tell Ben. Cassie’s love for Ben carries him into adulthood, (real) marriage, children and the belief that it is a miracle to be able to give what he never received. From this video and the song, the singer says: 'Cause I need you in my life I wish that we could go outside Just to have a catch or two, me and you” I would love to have another pass or two with my dad and son.
