As Assembly elections approach in West Bengal, residents of Burisole village in Paschim Medinipur’s Jangalmahal region have voiced strong grievances over alleged exclusion from welfare schemes and poor infrastructure. Members of the Lodha Shabar Scheduled Tribe community claim that several households have not received benefits under housing schemes, lack electricity connections, and face irregular water supply and poor roads. Some villagers also alleged they were left out of social assistance programmes such as stipends for women and pensions for widows and senior citizens. Villagers said leaking huts, unsafe living conditions, and job cards without employment have added to their frustration. A few residents shared a mixed picture, noting that while some families received limited benefits, housing support remains a key concern. Amid rising discontent, some residents warned they may boycott voting if their demands are not addressed. “If the government doesn’t provide us with a house, we will not cast vote,” one villager said. Local officials, however, stated that multiple development initiatives have been undertaken in the village, including housing allotments, toilets, roads, and drinking water facilities. With polls due soon, the village’s demands highlight the continuing focus on rural development and welfare delivery in the election discourse. #WestBengalPolls #PaschimMedinipur #Jangalmahal #LodhaShabar #RuralIssues #WelfareSchemes #PollBoycott #AssemblyElections #IndiaNews #PTINews #PTIVideos #PressTrustOfIndia Subscribe to PTI's YouTube channel for in-depth reports, exclusive interviews, and special visual stories that take you beyond the headlines. #PTIVideos PTI News : ptinews.com PTI Fact Check : ptinews.com/factcheck/factcheck.aspx PTI X (formerly Twitter): https://x.com/PTI_News PTI Instagram: / ptinews_multimedia PTI Facebook: / presstrustofindia
