All info on official site: http://the-alan-parsons-project.com ARRANGEMENT AND ADAPTION Welcome in Ancient Egypt! The APP album "Pyramid" starts with its signature 4-note album theme, alternated with long silences which would make happy the avant-garde musician John Cage (that's why I enjoyed playing those silences longer). This results in a dramatic and mysterious atmosphere, in tone with the original (then abandoned) album's inspiration: witchcraft and mysticism. The ouverture continues with a landscape of indeciphrable sounds, which I consider the Parsons' masterpiece and I found challenging and fun adapting on piano seeing what came out. In this chaos an order gradually emerges when the Voyager theme develops, at the beginning still with a synth counterpoint. Many fans interpret this instrumental track as a space-time travel to Ancient Egypt, other see a reference to the first Voyager robotic space probe, which was launched in 1977, the same year of the album's development. The end of the piece anticipates the theme of the song "What Goes Up . . ." which I perform as instrumental, and is about the fact that all things must come to an end. The verses are characterized by many 5th intervals (common in ancient music) - especially in the wonderful male choir interpretation which orchestra/choir arranger Andrew Powell gives in his instrumental and orchestral APP cover album, on 2nd verse. I hence moved to 3rd verse the Ian Bairnson guitar solo, which, in modal jazz style, uses, for the most, only the 4 notes of the album theme. Finally a big-suspance crescendo followed again by silence gives the idea of death and destruction, followed by a memory of the verse and closing cyclically with the album theme (which will return also in "In the Lap of the Gods").
