Listening to Radiocrunchers live stream this afternoon I was pondering why he may not be receiving as much on airband compared to me. Particularly knowing his location, which is not far from the transatlantic inbounds routing to LHR and I'm on the other side of the country yet can hear a/c coming in well before the Welsh coast. This is a simple and cheap airband dipole that I use to connect to my scanner. A dipole antenna total length in inches can also be obtained by the formula 468/(f) MHz desired resonant frequency and then divide by 2 to get each leg. That said, don't get hung up on precise numbers, this antenna does not have to be exact!
