China covid policy u-turn: Beijing to scrap quarantine for incoming passengers • FRANCE 24 English

China's National Health Commission has announced that a COVID-19 quarantine requirement for travelers arriving from abroad will be dropped as of January 8th. Current rules require new arrivals to quarantine for 5 days at a hotel followed by three days at home. The latest decision continues China's loosening of its strict Zero Covid policies following waves of anti-lockdown protests. That loosening though has led to skyrocketing infection rates, with both hospitals and crematoriums overwhelmed.
