Tonight at ISPC, we continue Duʿa of the Messenger (ﷺ), our Ramadan Fajr lecture series delivered by Sheikh Saad Slaoui. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ، عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ كُلِّهِ، عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا سَأَلَكَ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَاذَ مِنْهُ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ كُلَّ قَضَاءٍ قَضَيْتَهُ لِي خَيْرًا “O Allah, I ask You for all good, immediate and delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know. And I seek refuge in You from all evil, immediate and delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your servant and Prophet asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the evil from which Your servant and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for whatever brings me closer to it of words and deeds, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from whatever brings me closer to it of words and deeds. And I ask You to make every decree You decree for me good.” In Episode 9, we reflect on the duʿa Jami, a comprehensive supplication that gathers the believer’s highest hopes and deepest needs into one beautiful prayer. In this duʿa, we ask Allah for all good, in this life and the next, the good we know and even the good we do not know to ask for. We seek refuge from all evil in the same complete way, then place our trust in the best model of supplication by asking for the good the Prophet ﷺ asked for and seeking protection from what he sought protection from. It teaches us humility, reminding us that Allah knows what is best for us beyond what our minds can grasp. This duʿaʾ reminds us that true success is not just getting what we want, but being guided to what is truly good and protected from what harms us, even when we do not recognize it. In Ramadan, this supplication helps us ask with completeness: for Jannah, for the deeds and words that lead to it, for protection from the Fire, and for every decree of Allah to become خير (good) for us.
