In this NBC5 Dallas (KXAS) story, Dallas trial attorney Charla Aldous tells reporter Susy Solis that a Dallas County jury sent a clear message in its multimillion-dollar verdict against the Episcopal School of Dallas. Aldous tells Solis that the jury found the school district liable for fraud, gross negligence and a breach of fiduciary duty when it determined the district failed to protect a student from the predatory acts of her history teacher, John Nathan Campbell, and forced her to transfer to another school. Aldous, who represented the family of the student in the civil case, says the district failed the student at every turn, including in its failure to perform appropriate background checks on Campbell and to properly monitor the teacher's use of school property, including an ESD credit card and ESD-owned cell phone, either of which would have unquestionably raised red flags. "I think the jury heard the case ... and sent a message loud and clear that our community will not tolerate a school treating a sexual abuse victim like the way ESD treated" the victim, Aldous says.
