Fire and rain don't go well together so I decided to make a thatched roof covering over a fire pit at the entrance to my shelter before the forecasted rain arrives. For this reason I did very little work on the new hut but I did gather some more wood and yucca leaves to make cordage. For lunch I brought a big clam and mussels from the coast. They are so easy to cook in the shell and they come out delicious. I need to process more acorns and mesquite too. Fortunately, even with the wet conditions, I was able to easily make a fire from friction, although the tinder bundle took a little longer than usual to ignite. Then I enjoyed the delicious meal courtesy of the sea. This is the sixth installment of a new series exploring this topic of "New Beginnings".
