A psychology graduate from the University of Minnesota who chose to focus on studying human emotions is Carney Landis. Landis aimed to identify patterns in human responses to diverse triggers through his experiment. The way Landis carried out his experiment earned him the moniker "mad scientist" and caused others to label him an unethical psychologist. Landis photographed his fellow students as they engaged in a variety of actions for the experiment; the more strange, the better. Smelling ammonia and dipping hands into buckets with the slimiest frogs and electric shock wires were among the activities. Even though these occurrences are strange, they are nonetheless bearable. The forceful decapitation of a live rat was the act that threw everyone through the roof. Participants who declined to do it themselves were still filmed as they watched Landis perform the task while he was filming their emotions. After the experiments, which produced results that were less than persuasive, almost all volunteers experienced trauma and disorientation. The sole saving grace in this tale is the fact that Landis never continued his practice of sexual psychosis while slaughtering additional rodents.
