This was an eventful ride home! At University and Dundas there were sirens everywhere. Multiple firetrucks were heading west on Dundas and thankfully drivers made room for them. Then, a police car was trying to go down University Ave, but stupidly did not use the bike lane, which was designed to be wide enough for emergency vehicles to drive in! A number of drivers pulled over into some empty parking spaces, but drivers at the front of the line stood frozen for much longer than they should have. Eventually, a couple of drivers pulled into the crosswalk to get out of the way and the cop was able to get by and zoom down University. Once again, bike lanes did not slow down that emergency vehicle, drivers who did not know what to do were the ones who got in the way (and pedestrians, to an extent, who kept crossing in front of those drivers). My plan was to ride part of the way home on the new Harbord cycle track, so that's where I headed next. New asphalt and concrete! Very nice. I noticed a big truck seemed to be pacing me, and then the passenger in the truck yelled something at me. He was curious about the camera on my head! I should get a sales commission because after asking how much it cost he looked it up and saw that it was on sale. He asked me if he could use it while running and I told him he could. Hopefully he bought one and has lots of fun with it. Insta360 owes me! This time of year is always a bit of a challenge, partly because of the difference in temperature between the morning and afternoon (it's hard to pick clothing that's suitable for 0° and 10°, but also because the sun is so low it really blinds you as you're heading west. I had my sunglasses, but they didn't help much. I just had to pay attention and not ride blindly into potentially dangerous situations.
