When you buy a share, the order is requested through your trading terminal to the corresponding broker. Your order to buy a share will be in the queue as long as the broker finds a matching order from a participant who wishes to sell the share at the same price. Once the two orders are matched, a request is sent to the exchange to complete this order. Very interestingly, all this process happens in a fraction of a second. The shares from the seller's account are debited and those shares are credited into your demat account. At the end of the day, the clearing corporation NSCCL and ICCL make sure these shares are electronically exchanged and credited into your demat account. It is also the broker's responsibility to settle all these trades at the end of the day. All the while, SEBI keeping an eye on these operations. Your brokers are obliged to send SMS and email notifications to all the trades that you have taken through the day, on the same day.
