Tennessee Mountain Still - Nashville Cut - A Norm Schmidt Original Song

This is a down home fun, bluegrass song, written as a special request, from a friend who was born and raised in the Tennessee backwoods mountains. I started writing it years ago, after I first met my buddy and a great night of conversation about our backgrounds. After that, we lost touch for a while but were reunited due to the music circuit I was playing, at that time. He asked if I ever wrote the song and I said, “mostly – just needed to finish it”. After that encounter, I indeed finished it and recorded recently, Nashville cut style. (Please let me add this footnote here that I am in no way advocating drinking) Anyway, a bit more as to how the song originated. As mentioned above, we sat together one night, talking memories of how we grew up and he told me all about how his family survived; that brewing moonshine was their main gig. They were basically very poor but got by on moonshine revenue and family farm produce and livestock sales and trades. After a while of awesome conversation, he asked me if I could write a song about it. He explained he wanted it bluegrass style; and named the instruments his” kinfolk” played as they watched and brewed the liquid mash into Tennessee Mountain Firewater, also known as “gut-rot”. Of course, the elders had to frequently test the brew to see if it was cooked, as they played fiddle, guitar, banjo, dobro, standup bass, as best as they could, especially after several hours of sampling. LOL! I said I’d give it my best shot. So, here ya have it! Enjoy this pro Nashville studio cut. This one’s for you COY.
