The Politics of Trauma (and why cPTSD will never be in the DSM)

Complex PTSD (cPTSD) isn't a recognized diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) despite decades of research validating its existence. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) have recognized cPTSD since 2019, so why hasn't the DSM? Well, it turns out that the DSM might be more of a political document than a scientific one, guarding the financial interests of some of the most powerful entities in America rather than doing what's best for patients.
