Ukrainian forces have secured the settlement of Ternuvate in the Zaporizhzhia region from Russians, bringing it firmly under Kyiv's control, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated. He posted a video where Ukrainian troops are shown standing by a sign marking the settlement, holding the Ukrainian flag. "The Russians sometimes post so-called victories online for an hour… We are in Ternuvate now, doing our job. Ternuvate is ours, Ukrainian," a soldier said in the video, urging Russian troops to surrender. In January, Russian forces circulated reports claiming they had occupied the settlement of Ternuvate—a claim that was false. On January 31, Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces stated that the settlement is at least 15 kilometers from the front line. However, the presence of Russian forces had not been confirmed either. "The enemy used their 'favorite infiltration tactic.' A few days ago, a Russian sabotage group secretly entered the settlement, taking advantage of difficult weather conditions," the statement read. According to the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops even used drones to record several locations where they briefly raised their flags. However, within an hour, Ukrainian forces carried out reconnaissance and search operations and cleared the settlement. One enemy group was eliminated, while another was taken prisoner. Also, Russia has recently been actively redeploying its so-called "elite" airborne units to the Orikhiv direction in the Zaporizhzhia region. This indicates that Russian forces have suffered significant losses in the area. In addition, the media reported that Russia plans to intensify its offensive in the Zaporizhzhia region in 2026. Media previously reported that military expert Pavlo Narozhny believes the Ukrainian Defense Forces will be able to hold their positions along the Dnieper River in the Zaporizhzhia sector, despite Russian occupiers attempting to increase their presence in the area. Narozhny shared that weather conditions, particularly prolonged frosts down to -10 degrees Celsius, allow the occupiers to move across the ice along the former Kakhovka Reservoir. The expert also noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have prepared for such a scenario, which is why all sections of the front are covered with minefields and artificial obstacles. Narozhny hopes that the Russian occupiers will not be able to break through these lines.
