"Jose Rizal: The Pride of the Malay Race" was the official short documentary for the 100th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, 30 December 1996, produced by the Jose Rizal Martyrdom Centennial Commission and the Philippine Centennial Commission in 1995. Directed by Noel Shaw, written by Arnel Patawaran and narrated by Joonee Gamboa. The documentary features documents and iconic movie clips from Gerardo de Leon's Noli Me Tangere, Eddie Romero's Noli Me Tangere and Raymond Red's Bayani. The national hero was played by Pen Medina, who also played Rizal in Ateneo de Manila History Department and Bookmark's Jose Rizal: Ang Buhay ng Isang Bayani. Lorrie Ilustre's musical score was based on the musical compositions of Lorenzo S. Ilustre (1866-1922) which were tributes to Jose Rizal, including Jota Rizal. I used to watch this regularly shown in 1997-1998 with the Expo Filipino documentary at the test broadcasts of Zoe TV Channel 11 which eventually became GMA News TV and Light TV - Xiao Chua Video courtesy of Museo ni Jose Rizal, Calamba; National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
