The Botanical garden the Jochum Hof in Tegelen (Venlo) has a long history. The oldest parts of the garden date from 1799, when the current location of the botanical garden was a capital mansion. In 1933 the enthusiastic Father Peter Jochum began a botanical garden to support the biology education at the monastery. From all parts of the world missionaries brought plants and seeds to Steyl for the garden of Father Jochum. Several gardens date from these periods. In later years, the garden was extended with a Mediterranean greenhouse, where these cacti show their beauty.
