In yet another tragic incident within just three weeks, a 7-year-old boy who had gone missing in Shillong was found dead on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community. The victim disappeared from Lum Myrboh Nongrah around 4 pm on Wednesday, October 8. Despite an extensive search involving both locals and police personnel, no breakthrough was made until the following morning when a passerby discovered the boy’s body at Lum Rumnong, Mawpat, and alerted the local headman. The location where the body was found is approximately two kilometres from the boy’s residence. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide. “All indications point to a homicide, and the post-mortem will provide a clearer picture of the injuries,” SP Syiem said. Preliminary findings suggest that the boy may have been killed elsewhere and his body was later placed at the recovery site. He added that the gravity of the case could warrant the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a thorough probe. The incident comes shortly after the community was shaken by the death of a 4-year-old girl from Nongrah. The girl, who went missing on September 14, was found dead the next day at an under-construction site near her home. In that case, a 13-year-old boy confessed to the crime and was subsequently produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). While clarifying that there appears to be no connection between the two cases, SP Syiem assured that all angles will be thoroughly investigated. “Right now, I don’t see a connection. It could be an isolated case because the accused of the first incident has already been identified. Nonetheless, we will investigate fully,” he said. The recurring tragedies have sparked widespread concern among citizens. Urging the community to remain vigilant, SP Syiem stressed the importance of preventive measures such as installing CCTVs, improving street lighting, monitoring children closely, and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the police emergency number 112. The East Khasi Hills police have appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and maintain heightened awareness to prevent such incidents in the future. ========= Support Independent Journalism by becoming Our Premium Member: https://eastmojo.com/eastmojo-subscri... ========= Subscribe to never miss an update: / @eastmojoofficial ========= Visit our website: https://www.eastmojo.com/ Become a Premium Member: https://eastmojo.com/eastmojo-subscri...
