Terrace Bay council received two delegations at this weeks meeting. The first one presented some facts on Seniors Housing needs and will be presented as a separate video. The next in person delegation was from EDF Renewables, who proposed transitioning their Terrace Bay project from a small solar site to a 200-megawatt, eight-hour lithium-ion battery storage system. This change was driven by new provincial procurement rules that favour wind projects over small solar sites in the region. The proposed battery storage facility would be located on the existing runway, requiring a small footprint and generating minimal noise. EDF is engaging with local First Nations for potential partnerships and confirmed a continued sponsorship of the Superior Classics Car Club drag fest. The project is also expected to create at least 200 construction jobs and 2-4 permanent long-term maintenance jobs. EDF requested Council to approve a municipal support resolution, which is required for their bid in the next procurement round. In other business, Council discussed the schedule for a Fall Town Hall, tentatively set for late November. Special Projects report focussed on Food cycling and a proposal to promote and enhance Cycling Tourism in the area. Council also finalized five requests for the 2026 AMO delegations, covering topics like infrastructure, economic development, bear issues with the MNRF, and supporting virtual training for Early Childhood Educators (ECEs). Finally, Council authorized the donation of six remaining Foodcycler units to local schools and non-profit organizations to continue promoting food waste reduction
