In this video we visit the new Hallam station; situated on the Pakenham Line in Melbourne's outer south east. Opening on the 2nd May 2022, the station was rebuilt above ground to grade separate the Hallam Road level crossing. The new station has a side platform layout and two entrances; one on each side of Hallam Road with stairs and lift access, which allows for easy pedestrian access and access to bus services. We mostly see Metro Trains Melbourne EMU's arrive and depart the station. In a sign of the times most trains seen are the new High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT's); in the two hours I was here only two Comeng trains made an appearance. We also see a couple of V/Line Vlocities on Gippsland services (I would have filmed more but I missed a couple; they kinda sneak up on you here) and the daily QUBE Maryvale Paper Train towards Melbourne with locomotives G512 & G515. The new station feels very similar to Moreland station on the Upfield Line which has a similar layout and style of canopies, the main difference being is that Hallam utilises a lighter colour palette and different wall perforated panels. Oddly enough it also reminds me of Port Adelaide station in Adelaide which is also an elevated station with a generally light colour scheme, although Port Adelaide resembles a prison while Hallam has a clean and functional appearance that blends nicely into its industrial surrounds. Having the two platform entrances is a big plus in my books as it will allow for easy transfers between train & bus services; something Melbourne generally isn't good at, even at new stations. Being a weekend I didn't film any buses as there's less services around. I might come back another time to film a part 2 of this video and get some bus footage. Fun fact: I didn't get this on film but the station toilets are the old Exoloo toilets that were retained from the old Hallam station. These are now the only remaining remnants of the old Hallam station. Intro sequence inspired by Dash Transit: / dashtransit Date: May 2022.
