Inheritance of traits depends on the combination of alleles which are the variants of genes and on the independent assortment of chromosomes during gamete formation. In this video from simple biology, Mr. Mahdi Explain the process of inheritance or heredity as passing traits from parents to offspring from one generation to the next. Chromosomes are threads of DNA wrapped around proteins and segments of DNA called genes contain the the code to make specific protein. So DNA controls the cell activities by controlling the process of protein production. Human cell contains 46 chromosomes in its nucleus which make 23 pairs which also referred to as diploid ( 2 sets of chromosomes). All body cells are diploid and only gametes are haploid. when gametes fuse by fertilization, they make a zygote which divide by mitosis to make many more cells which all have the same genes but different cells express different genes which results in many different structures. The male has XY chromosomes while the female has XX chromosomes thus the nature of the sex chromosome in the sperm determines the gender of the baby. and sex linked characteristics are coded by genes located on sex chromosomes and usually common in one sex more than the other. #inheritance #chromosomes #genes #alleles #heredity #pedigree #punnett_square #IGCSE
