BREAKING NEWS:UN SC Adopts Resolution Backing Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara | AC1N

The UN Security Council convened a session to discuss the situation concerning Western Sahara, following an initial discussion on Libya. The Council reviewed the Secretary-General’s report (S/25612) on the situation and considered a draft resolution (S/2025/692) submitted by the United States. After voting, 11 members voted in favor, none opposed, and three abstained, while one member did not participate. The draft was adopted as Resolution 2797 (2025). The UN Security Council is set to vote on a resolution backing Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a disputed region long contested by Rabat and the Polisario Front. The meeting also includes remarks from Morocco’s UN Ambassador Omar Hilale, and representatives of South Africa and Frente POLISARIO.
