In this Tatty LandRover video, Bob starts a two-part repair on the steering box from his 1968 Series 2A. Oil has been escaping, so the box needs to come out for inspection and repair. Rather than replacing the unit, Bob strips the steering box down, cleans years of dirt and corrosion from the original aluminium casing, and prepares it for repair. This first part covers removal, dismantling, and careful cleaning, setting things up for repair and rebuilding in Part 2. It’s a long, practical job done at a steady pace, with an emphasis on repairing and reusing original parts instead of spending money where it isn’t needed. WARNING: This is a long, detailed job, shown in real time where it matters. If you like careful work and seeing how things really come apart, this one is for you ;-) 0:35 Welcome 2:27 The Problem 7:33 Pitman Arm Removal 17:38 The Wisdom of Bob 18:11 Unbolting the Box 19:57 Removal 22:44 Dismantling and Inspection 30:08 Cleaning 31:42 More Inspection 37:37 Grinding Corrosion 39:01 Goodbye...for now
