Fue el más temido de los corsarios otomanos y luchó contra los barcos cristianos en numerosas batallas por todo el Mediterráneo, donde destacó por su ferocidad. Los cuantiosos daños que causó a la flota española desesperaron a Carlos V, que mandó capturarlo y estuvo en galeras como esclavo durante cuatro años, pero Barbarroja pagó su rescate y Dragut fue liberado. Un 25 de mayo de 1550, el pirata Dragut, lugarteniente del corsario Barbarroja, atacó por sorpresa la ciudad de Cullera, llevándose un botín importante de bienes y cautivos. El suceso causó gran conmoción en la Cullera de la época y la villa quedó prácticamente despoblada durante décadas. Este Poema Sinfónico “Dragut el Pirata” nos traslada a aquellos ingratos momentos, describiendo en música lo acontecido mediante las siguientes secuencias: Presagio. Turgut Reis, llamado Dragut (1514 – 1565). Rumbo a la ciudad de Cullera. El barco pirata. La sorprendente ciudad mediterránea de Cullera. Preparando el asalto a la villa de Cullera. Remando a toda vela. Presentimiento, la villa de Cullera será saqueada. La cantina pirata. Dragut y sus piratas bordean Cullera para iniciar el ataque. Disparando los cañones. Asaltando la ciudad de Cullera. Huida, después del saqueo, de Dragut y sus piratas. Cullera saqueada y desvalijada. La ciudad de Cullera recuperada. Cullera, el paraíso. Ayuntamiento de Cullera, para ser obra obligada en el 72º Certamen Nacional de Bandas de Música “Ciutat de Cullera”, en el año 2019. “Dragut el Pirata” se estrenó los días 17 y 24 de Febrero por las dos bandas sinfónicas locales del municipio de Cullera, en el Auditorio Municipal: La Sociedad Musical Santa Cecilia de Cullera, dirigida por Carlos Garcés y el Ateneo Musical de Cullera, dirigida por Ferrer Ferran. ------- Turgut Reis —known as “Dragut”—was born at the turn of the XVI century. Dragut was the most feared Ottoman corsair and fought against Christian ships in numerous battles throughout the Mediterranean Sea. As a result, he became famous for his fierceness. Dragut caused an enormous amount of damage to the Spanish fleet which despaired Charles the Fifth, who ordered his capture and condemned him as a rower for four years. Finally, Barbarroja —an Ottoman admiral— paid his ransom and he was freed. On May 25th of 1550, the pirate Dragut —lieutenant of the corsair Barbarroja— led a surprise attack on the village of Cullera, achieving a valuable booty of assets and captives. This was a big shock for the townspeople and Cullera remained depopulated for decades. The symphonic poem “Dragut the Pirate” takes us back in time to that stunning Mediterranean city of Cullera and describes in music the story and events through the following sequences: Premonition.
