Like the piece’s older sibling, To The Skies!, this work has an optional 16-bit backing track, channeling retro game consoles and RPGs of old. As a composer and child of the late 1980s and most of the 1990s, what this piece really speaks to the excitement of finally getting a ship and exploring the world map in a retro video game. Videos games were—and still are—a big part of my life and it would be impossible for that music not to find its way into my writing. For the students in the band: Lean into the things that define you, even if they might be off the beaten path.
