This results in stiffness, which decreases lung compliance and oxygenation, and makes it more difficult to breathe. It is also caused by the inhalation of toxic substances, such as asbestosis, silicosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and other occupational and environmental toxins. There are also certain drugs and medications known for causing ILD. Some examples include antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and certain anti-arrhythmic agents.
