Exploring the city, Monticello, Carter Mountain Apple Orchard, Shenandoah National Park and MORE! We spend a weekend exploring all over the area. We toured Charlottesville, VA for a few days and found some great things to do! We ate breakfast at The Nook restaurant on our first day - they were very reasonably priced and was a great spot to grab snack sized meal. After wandering around the Main St. downtown area, we setoff for the Monticello Plantation. Thomas Jefferson lived here in his later years and the whole area is set in the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains (big hills). We finished up the day exploring and recreating (making up) history for the University of Virginia, UVA, campus buildings. We started at the Rotunda on their campus and then just wandered around from there. There were plenty of bars, restaurants and eateries around the campus but if you want a little more grown up style restaurants/not fast food - head to the old downtown area. https://visit.monticello.org/reopenin... The next morning we woke up early and reserved a spot to visit Carter Mountain Apple Orchard mainly to just get doughnuts... after wandering around we went back and got supplies to pick apples. They sell a few different sized bags depending on if you want a ton of apples or an entire trees worth! https://chilesfamilyorchards.com/orch... After a morning of stuff our faces with doughnuts we set off for Shenandoah National Park of Virginia to hike the Blackrock Summit Trailhead and the Doyles River Falls Trailhead. Blackrock had some great views, no crazy elevation changes and a few families with kids enjoying it. Doyles River promised multiple waterfalls but has a 1.4 mile hike down and super tiring climb up. Worth it - even though my legs were sore the next day. For a real hiker it would probably be a cakewalk haha. https://www.nps.gov/shen/index.htm
