Footage circulating online appears to show strikes using white phosphorus in villages across southern Lebanon, prompting serious allegations against Israel. Human Rights Watch says the use of white phosphorus in civilian areas would be a violation of international law. The group, along with Amnesty International, has previously documented similar incidents in southern Lebanon and Gaza Strip since October 2023. White phosphorus is a highly reactive chemical that ignites on contact with oxygen, burning at extremely high temperatures and producing thick white smoke.
