It was then re-released in 2015 with a new facelift, a new band, a new appearance, and has since become a staple in the Avo collection. It consists of an Ecuadorian sun-grown wrapper, which is what sets this apart from the usual Avo offerings, which tend to be quite mild. 02:11 - Look & Feel The Avo Heritage has a rustic appearance. Overall, the body is nicely consistently rolled. There were a couple of tiny soft spots, but nothing too disconcerting. A few visible veins as well, which is why I describe it as quite rustic in appearance. But there's a nice firm spring overall, with a lovely oily sheen, is particularly attractive to the eye 03:16 - Prelight With regards to the pre-light, the draw offers a pleasant flow. And the flavors were quite rich. What I got here in the pre-light instead was ambergris, primarily, which is another type of musk. 04:13 - Tasting Notes The first third opens with molasses, charred oak, and liquorice root. Afterwards, you can expect cocoa in the second third as well as brazil nuts and nutmeg. Finally, the last third delivered earth, agarwood, and coffee beans. It has an intriguing complexity with a velvety mouthfeel. The initial stimulation focuses towards the centre but then spreads out in the second half of the cigar. However, the cigar focuses more on consistency rather than an evolution in its life-cycle. 06:58 - Burn With regard to the burn, anyone who's familiar with Avo cigars knows that they have a certain charm about them. This is no exception. The burnover was quite wavy. In terms of ash backbone, I did get about an inch of ash before it plopped off, which to be honest is better performance than most Avo cigars. Otherwise the draw was perfectly consistent throughout the whole experience, had a nice degree of resistance, and it provided a cool smoke 07:28 - Overall Experience The band features a stunning gold colour and looks very appealing. However, it can be challenging to remove. Meanwhile, the box is presented with an attractive lacquer finish with a wooden interior. The value of these cigars is excellent. You can get samplers for about 40 bucks, which includes four cigars, so that would come to about 10 bucks each. Given that Avo is one of these entry level premium brands that is just, in terms of price, a step below Davidoff, it tends to offer very good value for money. 08:54 - Pairings Consider dark chocolate, pretzels, or even chargrilled meat to accompany this cigar. Otherwise, a Fine Champagne cognac or a Highland single malt would be excellent digestifs. It would also pair well with a dark espresso roast.
