Disneyland's Space Mountain originally had no music. Then, in the mid-90s, a sound system was added to the rockets, and a surf rock version of Saint-Saëns' "Aquarium" blasted into the riders' ears...when it worked, that is. Fast forward to 2003: the attraction was suddenly shut down for a two-year overhaul that entailed completely replacing the track, updating the special effects, refreshing the queue decor...oh yeah, and adding some freaking awesome music. Don't get me wrong...the old Dick Dale tune was a lot of fun. Way more fun than it deserved to be, considering the weird juxtaposition of sci-fi with surf culture with classical music. I still listen to that version, and I may upload my piano version of it at some point. But what Michael Giacchino wrote for the post-2005 Space Mountain...boy, it's pretty cool. And the sound system in the new rockets doesn't seem to break down! Like a lot of my favorite stuff, this piece cannot be judged based on MY performance. The original is so much more amazing. But I do have fun playing it by ear, and if you forgive the wavering tempo in the faster sections, you just might have fun listening. (Fingers crossed!) If you don't...let me know! Tell me how I can improve. Only...don't be stupid about it. XD Also, as usual, this is all played by ear, not with published sheet music. If you want to learn how to play it...learn how to play it! :)
