In his sermon "A Table for Two Please," part of our My Super Weird, Crazy, Dysfunctional Family series, Pastor Steve explores how God's plan for reaching the Gentiles required a special messenger—the Apostle Paul. Pastor Steve emphasizes that: God's sovereignty and eternal plan: From Isaiah 46 and Revelation 1, God declares the end from the beginning and His purposes will stand. Jesus' unconventional family: Despite coming from a "crazy and wild" family where His mother was pregnant before marriage, He was born in a barn, His brothers didn't believe in Him, and He was despised, rejected, betrayed, and abandoned—this was how God chose to build an eternal Church. God's inclusive mission: Through Simeon's prophecy, Jesus was prepared as "a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel". The Last Supper wasn't the last: Jesus shared the Passover meal with His adopted family (the apostles), but promises to sup with anyone who opens the door to Him. Paul's special calling: To reach the Gentiles, God needed a Jew who was "totally disconnected" from his pride of being a Jew—like Moses before him. Paul's story began before the foundation of the world, with his conversion detailed in Acts 9. Pastor Steve highlights how Jesus has "reserved a table for two"—an intimate invitation for personal relationship with Him.
