We saw that when Jesus proclaimed the Gospel he said the Kingdom of God has come near by which he meant that the Kingdom of God is here, is present, has arrived, has come upon us. Now we're continuing to look at what showed up when Jesus said the Kingdom of God is here. If we can discover what showed up when Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the Kingdom of God then we'll know what Jesus meant by the Kingdom of God SCRIPTURES WE LOOK AT IN THIS EPISODE Matthew 4:17, Matthew 4:23, Matthew 9:35, Matthew 10:1, Matthew 16:19 , Matthew 10:5-6 LOUW & NIDA DEFINITION OF KINGDOM: (Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament Based on Semantic Domains (Louw & Nida)) 37.64 βασιλεύω (1) ας f: (includes: βασιλεία[α]) to rule as a king, with the implication of complete authority and the possibility of being able to pass on the right to rule to ones son or near kin - to rule, to be a king, to reign, rule, reign. βασιλεύω[a]: ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι Ἀρχέλαος βασιλεύει τη̂ς Ἰουδαίας ... ἐφοβήθη ἐκει̂ ἀπελθει̂ν when he heard that Archelaus was king of Judea, ... he was afraid to settle there MAT.2:22. βασιλεία[a]: τη̂ς βασιλείας οὐκ αὐτου̂ ἔσται τέλος his reign will never end LUK.1:33. It is generally a serious mistake to translate the phrase ἡ βασιλεία του̂ θεου̂ the kingdom of God as referring to a particular area in which God rules. The meaning of this phrase in the NT involves not a particular place or special period of time but the fact of ruling. An expression such as to enter the kingdom of God thus does not refer to going to heaven but should be understood as accepting Gods rule or welcoming God to rule over. https://archive.org/details/greekengl... JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA ENTRY ABOUT KEY: KEY By: Emil G. Hirsch, M. Seligsohn In Biblical times the key, as its Hebrew name indicates ("mafteaḥ" = "the opener"), was used chiefly to open the door which was locked by means of a bolt ("beriaḥ"). This bolt, like that used in the Orient to-day, had a number of holes into which fitted iron points in the door-post, so arranged that they dropped into the corresponding holes as soon as the bolt was pushed into the opening made for it in the door-post. The key, made of wood, was provided at the end with a similar number of nails, arranged to correspond with the iron points holding the bolt. Introducing the key from the side into the run of the bolt, one was able by these nails to push up from below the iron points and then draw the bolt back. Thus Ehud could lock the door of Eglon's palace without the aid of a key, while only Eglon's servants "took the key and opened" (Judges iii. 25). The expression "to bear the key on his shoulder" denotes possession of office (comp. Isa. xxii. 22). In the time of Ezra, four Levites, the chief porters, were in charge of the key of the Temple (I Chron. ix. 27). The key as a symbol of authority is also met with in the Talmud: "Three keys are in God's own hand which He never entrusteth to any angel: the key of rain; that of childbirth; and that of the resurrection of the dead. The Western (Palestinian) Talmudists say also the key of nourishment" (Sanh. 113a; Ta'an. 2a). https://jewishencyclopedia.com/articl... STORY FROM TALMUD ABOUT ELIJAH AND THE KEYS: Talmud Sanhedrin 113 Holy Scriptures, found in the subverted city, are to be buried. However, Rabbi Eliezer says that they should have been burned together with other property, and since this is not allowed, any city that has at least one mezuzah cannot be judged as subverted city. Yehoshua said, “Cursed be the man before Hashem, who rises up and builds this city, Jericho. With his oldest son he will lay its foundation and with his youngest son he will set up its gates.” Chiel, a close friend of King Ahab, rebuilt the city, and the curse was fulfilled in him. Elijah came to console him, and Ahab asked if he thought the curse of Joshua was the cause. Ellijah confirmed. Then Ahab said that Moses had cursed everybody who worhsips idols with drought, and that he has established an idol on every hill, but in Israel there was an abundance of rain. Elijah immediately decreed a drought, and God granted it to him. Elijah had to run away to the desert, where ravens brought him bread and meat, and he drank from a brook. Eventually the brook dried out, and Elijah was commanded to go live in Tsarfat. When the son of his hostess died, Elijah wanted to revive him, but God said, “I have three keys – from childbirth, rain, and resurrection. It is not proper for Me to have one, and for you – two. Elijah had to give up the key to rain, and drought ended.…" http://talmudilluminated.com/sanhedri...
