Mine 5 (also called Olav V's mine) was a coal mine in Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen. The mine was in operation in the period from the autumn of 1959 to May 1972. Mine 5 was the first mine in Longyearbyen that was not built in Longyeardalen. Mine 5 was constructed in Endalen near the outlet in Adventdalen, approx. 10 kilometers east of Longyearbyen. The preparatory work for the opening of the mine included road construction and the transmission of a power line and telephone. The road from the quay to the mine opening was completed and was taken into use from the autumn of 1957. The same year the production began. The cable car to the mine was completed in the summer of 1958, and the heavier mining equipment was in place early in the winter of the same year.
