'Sound Cluster(Mungchi) I' (2025) is a kinetic sound installation composed of 18 speakers. The Korean word “𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘤𝘩𝘪” refers to a lump or cluster formed when multiple elements come together, suggesting something unrefined and loosely gathered. In this work, the artist connects 18 speakers and controls their movements through live coding, generating sound while paying close attention to the subtle acoustic changes that emerge as the speakers move apart and come back together. By manipulating these sound formations in real time, the artist listens to and observes this virtual form, continuously adjusting the code. This repetitive process requires moments of pausing, gazing, and listening. In doing so, the artist hears fleeting fragments of sound, adds new layers, controls movement, and shapes the sound cluster—sometimes weaving it together, sometimes taking it apart. 'Sound Cluster(Mungchi)' (2025) I is an attempt to create a kind of virtual mass through “invisible sound.” The artist remains in constant dialogue with this ambiguous and imperfect lump, treating the process as a form of live sound sculpture performance. Ultimately, the process of forming a single sound lump is left behind as both a guide and a record—code. '소리 뭉치 𝐈'는 18개의 스피커로 이루어진 키네틱 사운드 인스톨레이션이다. ‘뭉치’라는 단어의 의미는 ‘여러 개의 것들이 서로 붙거나 모여서 이루어진 덩어리’라는 뜻으로, 정제되지 않은 무언가가 한데 모여 있는 상태를 가리킨다. 작가는 18개의 스피커를 서로 연결하고 라이브 코딩을 통해 각 스피커의 움직임을 제어하며 소리를 발생시키고, 스피커들이 서로 멀어졌다가 다시 가까워질 때 드러나는 미세한 음향적 변화에 주목한다. 이러한 소리 뭉치를 실시간으로 조작해 나가면서 작가는 이 가상적 형태를 듣고, 살펴보며 코드를 수정해 나간다. 이러한 반복은 잠시 멈춰 서서 응시하며 듣는 순간을 필요로 하는데, 이 과정에서 작가는 소리의 찰나를 듣고, 다시 소리를 덧붙이며 움직임을 제어해 소리 뭉치를 조각하거나, 다른 방식으로 엮어내거나, 때로는 해체해 나간다. '소리 뭉치 𝐈'는 ‘보이지 않는 소리’를 통해 일종의 가상적 덩어리를 만들려는 시도로, 작가는 이 모호하고 불완전한 뭉치와 끊임없이 소통하며 이 과정을 일종의 라이브 사운드 조각 퍼포먼스로, 그리고 최종적으로 하나의 소리 뭉치를 만들기 위한 과정을 지침이자 기록—코드로 남겨둔다.
