What did the earliest Christians actually believe about the Church, the Sacraments, and the Scriptures? Were their beliefs closer to modern evangelicalism… or to historic liturgical Christianity? In this video, we look at what the early Church—before the Council of Nicaea—said about the Eucharist, Baptism, Scripture, and the canon. Drawing from early Christian writers like Irenaeus of Lyons, Justin Martyr, and others, we explore how the first generations of Christians understood worship, doctrine, and the authority of Scripture. We’ll also discuss the development of the biblical canon and the role of the books often called the Apocrypha, and how these were viewed in the early centuries of the Church. This isn’t about proving that the early Church was “Roman Catholic” or “Protestant.” Instead, it’s about listening to the voices of early Christians and seeing how their understanding of the faith compares with confessional Lutheran theology today. If you’re interested in church history, Lutheran theology, or the beliefs of the earliest Christians, this video is for you. ⸻ ☕ Support the channel: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/InWithandUnde...
