Nathan Cleverly is the current WBO world light-heavyweight champion with a record of 24 wins, 11 knockout wins and 0 losses. Cleverly is 25-years-old and a former European, British and Commonwealth champion - setting a record for the quickest collection of those belts in his division. Cleverly is the only Welshman to win all domestic belts and a world title since the great lightweight Freddie Welsh who accomplished the feat in 1914. Cleverly is Wales' 11th world champion and is 1 of over 30 world champions which his manager and promoter Frank Warren has worked with. Since 2008 Cleverly has been trained by his father Vince and his former amateur trainer Alan Davies. After starting boxing at 11-years-old, Cleverly finished his amateur career at 18-years-old, his amateur record was 32 wins and 4 losses and it included numerous Welsh and Four Nations titles. At 18-years-old Cleverly turned professional with trainer Enzo Calzaghe. Cleverly shared the gym with world champions Joe Calzaghe, Enzo Maccarinelli and Gavin Rees. The gym also housed top Welsh boxers such as current European champion Kerry Hope, former Commonwealth champion Bradley Pryce and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Jamie Arthur. Cleverly's from Cefn Fforest in the Blackwood area of the South Wales Valley's which is north of Cardiff. Cleverly attended Blackwood Comprehensive School and also achieved a degree in Pure Mathematics at Cardiff University.
