Lawyer's Collective Women's Rights Initiative - India (UN Trust Fund grantee)
In 2005, the Lawyer's Collective Women's Rights Initiative helped enact the first law in India that specifically addresses domestic violence. To set in motion uniform enforcement of the law, LCWRI produced a handbook for judges, now disseminated throughout the country. To further translate the law into action, LCWRI trains state actors to respond to domestic violence and provides legal aid to women facing violence. LCWRI also leads annual nation-wide evaluation of the implementation of the domestic violence law, presented publicly as an accountability tool to the highest authorities in the country.
