This past Sunday 7/23/19 a group of animal rights activists marched from Farmer John Slaughterhouse to Dodger Stadium to raise awareness of the horrible mistreatment of animals in the animal agriculture industry. Earlier this year several compassionate people in Northern California rescued abused and dying animals from unlivable conditions and as a result were charged with felonies since the law sees farmed animals as mere commodities. The law only protects dogs and humans trapped inside hot cars, but not cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, or lambs trapped in identical conditions. These are today's Good Samaritans that Jesus spoke of in scripture - the rare few showing mercy toward their neighbors in dire need (Luke 10:25-37). The law accuses them of felony charges for their compassion just as the law accused Jesus of blasphemy for offering forgiveness to the most broken (Mark 2:7). Do you believe compassion is a crime? Do you stand with the oppressed and with those who seek to rescue the oppressed or do you stand with those who speak blasphemy against the spirit of mercy, agreeing with them that it is a felonious act of lawlessness to be merciful? (Matthew 12:31) I pray that you consider the words of Jesus: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful" (Luke 6:36), and that you take your stand on the side of love, because God is love (1 John 4:16).
