A hexagonal one followed hammer - on each edge with a number, which is individually embossed on the wood as needed. Numbering machines can be divided into numbering wheels, hammers, mallets (semicircular, with one fixed disk or free-standing numbers in a circle, eg Bischoff, Schuster, etc.) and on moving, adjustable so-called numbering machines, numbering machines (Göhler's, Liebus's, Duft's, etc.). They are also known numbering machines having numbers placed individually at the end of the iron wires. These numbers were hot and up to wood burned.
