ITMS Registration to Begin in November Government has set 1st November 2024 as the new dates for issuing registration Number plates to new motorcycles and full rollout of all categories of motor vehicles and motorcycles on 6th January 2025. This exercise had to start in July and November last year but it was suspended for various reasons that among others include complaints from the business community and also contractors’ failure to deliver the consignments from abroad. Speaking to the press at the Uganda Media centre the minister for security Jim Muhwezi re-emphasized the aim is to ease recognition of vehicles used by criminals in the country to enable quick and timely response by the security agencies. The establishment of the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) by the Ugandan government is an important step toward enhancing national security and protecting its inhabitants. This effort, which is being jointly led by the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Security, aims to reshape vehicle security and criminal control in the country of East Africa. The updated license plates are not only symbolic; rather, they are expected to herald a technological revolution in the nation’s transportation and security industries. These license plates will have characteristics that enable law enforcement organizations to precisely and quickly identify both vehicles and their owners. Real-time data exchange is built into the system, which is essential in the instantaneous world of today. The ITMS makes sure that data is accessible right away in case of an emergency, a car theft, or an accident, which leads to quicker answers.ITMS will simplify the process of issuing traffic fines, which will affect driving behavior. Improved computerized policing and simple identification of criminals or traffic violators. The new license plates completely alter how security issues are addressed. To guarantee appropriate security management for all automobiles and motorcycles, reliable information related to vehicle owners is provided. Benefits Road Safety: The streets of Uganda will become safer for both drivers and pedestrians by preventing careless driving through continuous observation. Theft Deterrence: Thanks to the improved traceability, stolen cars can now be located with previously unheard-of accuracy, making it far less profitable for thieves to steal cars. #uctvnewsupdates #ministryofworksandtransport #uctvnews #ugandacatholictelevision #uctvuganda #security #transportation #numberplates
