This is a new choir piece that I wrote inspired by the recent success of the James Webb Telescope. It has allowed us to see further back into the history of our universe than at any point of humanity’s existence. The light we see from the distant galaxies left on their journey for earth billions of years ago; some from when the universe was only a few hundred million years old. “Light Immemorial” is a story from the perspective of a photon leaving its parent star from a galaxy billions of lightyears away. By the time we humans see the light from this star, we see the photons as they were billions of years ago; traversing the cosmos until one day it lands into our eyes for us to see. To think that the very light we observe has seen the entire existence of the universe only to one day be lucky enough to enter our eyes is nothing short of humbling. I can think of no better inspiration to set this phenomena to music through the sound of voices.
