Episode two: Cross Country Chaos continues.. This leg of my cross-country motorcycle journey was one of the hott, hard, and sentimental of the trip. We started the morning already baking — 85° before 9:30am — which called for adding heat shields, ice bags, zip ties, and doing whatever we could just to stay comfortable on the road. Between rising temperatures, and shipping gear home to lighten the bikes, this day tested us. By mid-day we were riding in 100+ degree heat, improvising with “on the road baths,” laughing through the discomfort, and reminding ourselves why we chose this adventure in the first place. We rerouted onto the Pig Trail Scenic Byway through the Ozark Mountains, and the second we hit the tree cover and twisties, everything changed. Cooler air, elevation, curves and views! From there, we crossed into Oklahoma, where I got to ride my motorcycle back to my hometown, hug family, enjoy a home-cooked meal, and spend time with my 96-year-old grandfather — a moment I’ll treasure forever. The journey continues along historic Route 66, stopping at POPS 66, the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, meeting followers, and pushing west toward New Mexico and Colorado. This episode is messy, real, uncomfortable, hilarious, emotional — and exactly what cross-country riding is actually like.
