Flowers: May - Oktober Silene dioica has dark pink to red flowers. Each flower is 1.8 to 2.5 cm across. There are five petals which are deeply notched at the end. Seed / Fruit: The fruit, is an ovoid capsule containing numerous seeds, opening at the apex by 10 teeth which curve back. Leaves: Deep green leaves in pairs and 3 to 8 cm long. The leaves and stems are hairy and slightly Sticky. World: Silene dioica is native in central, western and northern Europe, and locally in southern Europe. Location: Silene dioica grows in damp places with a pH value between 6.1 and 7.8, on nutrient-rich or sandy soil. Some shade is desirable, but full sun is not a problem. Insects: The nectar of the flowers is utilised by bumblebees and butterflies.
