Cloggers perform at the South Carolina Statehouse By: Simone Nichols Pace Columbia, SC - March 20th witnessed a unique convergence of legislative and cultural celebration as the South Carolina House of Representatives and the Senate jointly passed a resolution designating August 8th as "Clog Dancing Day" across the Palmetto State. The resolution, championed by Representative Raye Felder of York County, was eloquently read by Representative Travis Moore of Spartanburg County and officially presented by Representative Bill Sandifer III of Oconee County. In a joyous display of tradition and talent, nearly a hundred cloggers from various corners of South Carolina descended upon the steps of the statehouse following the proclamation's reading. The participating dancers hailed from a diverse array of counties including Abbeville, Aiken, Charleston, Cherokee, Darlington, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Kershaw, Lexington, McCormick, Pickens, Oconee, Richland, Spartanburg, and Union. Beyond state lines, cloggers from Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia also graced the occasion, adding to the vibrant festivities of the day. Former Representative Rita Allison of Spartanburg County, now serving on the SC Committee on Education by gubernatorial appointment, facilitated a memorable photo session, capturing the spirit of camaraderie and artistry permeating the event. for more information about the #nationaldayofclogging please visit www.simonepace.com
