Earlier in October I took a 3 day trip to Gurez, yet again. Having been there in spring and summer, it was almost a dream for me to see it in Autumn. Gurez consists of a number of villages and visiting all of them wouldn't have been possible, although I want to see every single one. This video shows our journey through two beautiful villages, Purana Tulail and Jurnial. The greatest jewel of Gurez is its people, what incredibly warm people. Everyone we met was nice and helpful throughout. I even managed to meet the 100-year-old man I had met back in 2016. He said I am 115 now haha. The valley looked majestic every time the sun shone on it. The sunlit trees with yellow and orange hues took my breath away every time. The blue hues of Neelum/Kishenganga river are mesmerizing as it cuts through the valley. Visiting Gurez has become kind of a therapy for me. Watching the Dard-Shina people live a simple life and in such harsh conditions in the lap of nature feels inspiring as well as humbling. The sad part though is this is a sensitive border area and there are checkposts etc everywhere. You have to share your identity and purpose of visit with the security personnel many times. And due to these reasons I've cut out showing that part of life here. Also we hired a Thar for the trip and it was worth every penny. ShoutOut to Escape The City for providing the car at the last moment. I urge you to visit Gurez whenever you can. The next dream for me is seeing Gurez in winter...a longshot because the roads are shut due to heavy snowfall for 6-7 months...we'll see. This film was inspired by the recent hiking films made by Kraig Adams.
