Time Stand Still | Full Band Cover | Rush

After spending nearly a decade working like a dog, at one point working two jobs concurrently, the nightmare that was the pandemic made me realize how easily the most meaningful and enjoyable parts of life can be taken away from you. Suddenly, Neil Peart's lyrics to one of my favorite ‪@rush‬ songs, Time Stand Still from Hold Your Fire, took on a new meaning. So from 2023 on, I devoted a lot more time to traveling with my friends and documenting some of those experiences on camera. After returning from my most recent trip, in which I drove through New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, it didn't take long to realize that a cover of Time Stand Still would be the perfect way to compile those memories into one neat package. The Gothik Serpent rendition of this truly special Rush tune, much like the previous cover of Manhattan Project, seeks to modernize its sound by drawing more inspiration from the band's performance on the Time Machine tour. Every cover I take on is a new puzzle that must be solved in order to get a sound that respects the original while infusing our own flavor, and this one was no different. In this case, the major hurdle was capturing the essence of Alex Lifeson's guitar tone. It turns out that he used a PRS with specially made active pickups which gave his tone a distinct twang, so recreating that quality required running three different amp simulators on multiple copies of the same guitar track and combining it with a heavily processed guitar VST that only played the big chords that punctuate both the verse and chorus. The locations featured in the video include White Sands (NM), Austin (TX), Dallas (TX), New Orleans (LO), St Francisville (LO), Biloxi (MS) and Bryce Canyon (UT).
